At end of last year I wrote a list of things to do during the next year. These where my new years resolutions that I tied up in typical fashion with my birthday. These resolutions were a mix of banal things but also important mini factors that I needed to try and sort out. As a year approaches since I wrote them down let me have a quick review and see how I did.
1) Go to the gym. I went through a phase of going almost everyday. Wimbledon and the gym became my two favourite summer passions. I didn’t lose any weight though. It wasn’t until I got this job that I did. MY cravings needed to be sorted out.
2) Be more organised. This was tricky but overall I am on top of most things. The only big problem is that I lost my national insurance number three weeks after getting it.
3) Never turn down an opportunity to go out. I haven’t and believe me I have not regretted it. Many of my best nights have come from nothing. Drunken risk, pimms afternoons and Milton Keynes Trips have all come from nothing.
4) Be Cleaner. Will never happen.
5) Learn Spanish. Didn’t Happen. I got lazy. I could have done it recently but I just find the need the urge to vegetate after work.
6) Travel more. Did not happen. If money problems had not arose I would have done this in the past couple of months.
7) Read a Book a month. I think I read just about that. With the wealth of stuff I read on the internet (some of which wasn’t useless) I think that should count as well.
8) Call my friends and family more often. Erm, no didn’t happen although I am beginning to see the importance of randomly calling girls.
9) Stop wasting time online. Recently it has happened but for a while it didn’t seem possible. The fact that R Kelly is out there making a dumb youtube only video excites me. That and my favourite bands being more online friendly made it harder. That and porn.
10) Giorgio Moroder. I went through a ska, reggae, dancehall, brazilain funk, Baltimore house, old school hip hop, dark electro, house, 60 surfer rock and melodic pop phases this year.
11) Learn to shut off my mind. I have mastered this, well up to a point. I am fantastic at allowing people to waffle on whilst I stare at their face. Ugly and uninteresting face, you better be god damn charming.
12) Do my reading on time. I did it and I was able to pass a lot more comfortably even though I didn’t do so well during exams.
13) See if you can make money of this blog. Never happened.
14) Try not to be so pessimistic. Surprisingly I have been quite chipper all year, even now as the harsh winter bites at my face every morning I still do my best. I sing Christmas carols badly just to try and entertain folk. Almost everyone loves a happy man.
15) Slowly build bond collection – Mum got me the whole set on video bless her heart. I didn’t buy any dvds all year. Mmm gross oversight.
16) Make and effort to reach out of touch friends. That is happening every god damn day. You gotta love it.
17) Learn to be less self conscious. Will never happen. I enjoy it too much, my life is like a French comedy full of embarrassment.
18) Didn’t see massana. I am actually drifting apart which sucks hard.
19) Watch more films. Did it, and watched a lot of stuff I thought I would hate. Films I never though I would enjoy included Pride and Prejudice, 13 going on 30 and the kingdom.
20) Went to a couple of gigs this year. The best being Vincent Vincent and the Villains. Missed out on Interpol, Kings of Leon and Joe Lean.
21) Don’t leave a night saying I should have done this but leave it saying I shouldn’t have done that. Did it and have to say much funnier year than I would have ever though.
Well there we go. I will make a revised list for next year.
Oh and always lie to a stripper they expect it. It’s like tipping.
