The Militia

Yes it sounds like something Ron Burgundy would say but you can’t deny the nerd internet dream team of The Clipse/Kanye/Dj Khallil.

The video is boring. Very boring.

Make The World Go Round

Usually when a forty something man tells me what to listen to I don’t pay attention but when it’s sound tracked to an amazing beat by No-ID (Kanye West’s mentor) I will. DOA may lack that lyrical wit of other Jay-Z stuff but it basically means that he has ethered (killed) the careers of these youngsters (DJ Webstar and Ron Browz, not Jeremih since he can do it sans autotune). Either way this is my favourite Jay street single in a while.

Oh!

From the Polo fleece to the Jesus piece
I got family in high places like Jesus' niece
Can I please, say my peace
If y'all fresh to death, then I'm deceased

This post has been inspired by the Munk one Jesus rocking Kanye piece tee shirt. So here is a selection of Kanye’s Jesus pieces. I would only wear the black one. Next post is the best ice I have seen in a while, not counting Gucci Mane’s Frosties one.

Props are due to this dude.

Caroline

02 Wireless festival is looking good this year. I have to admit it’s my favourite festival (I haven’t been to a lot) , it’s a 5 minute walk away from where I live. That means I can get incredibly drunk and walk home with no stress. This year it’s melded down into two days. Dance (Basement Jaxx) on a Saturday and on Sunday its (Kanye West) a hip hop day. I’m grabbing tickets for the Sunday, Kanye, Young Jeezy, Kid Cudi, Q-tip and Mr Hudson.

This could be Hudson’s year, I really liked his first album and now to see that he is working with G.O.O.D music (Kanye’s Label) is even more encouraging. This is the video for the first single There Will Be Tears, even more tender whilst sung live.

Get 'em High

If you got some spare time on my madre day you could much worse than checking out Fader magazine and their Kyte live streams of SXSW. The G.O.O.D music showcase is fantastic. Kanye’s musical family is quite diverse and features Kid Cudi, Common, Big Sean, Really Doe, Tony Williams, Fonsworth Bentley, GLC, Consequence and 88 Keys. And Camden’s own musical wizard Mr. Hudson. Expect big things from him this year.

(If that didnt satisfy you then check out Women, Theolonious London, Waaves, Michachu, We Have Band!, Late of the Pier and Bun B)

The Friend Zone

The best rap song of last year, technically this has been kicking around since that Kanye mixtape circa early 2007, finally gets a video. I would say it doesn’t disappoint but it is funny.

It isn’t often that you get to hear songs about erectile deficiency. Let alone in the male braggadocio world of Hip Hop. Let the record state that 88 Keys verse or mini verse is better than Kanye’s. His last line is genius.

“I heard that b**** hate men and she covers up her crotch
But she love to show her girls like Sanaa Lathan
And she throwing passes like Troy Aikman
And she really into twisting facts like false statements
He's into twisting backs by throwing his weight in
But she ain't waiting for him to rise to the occasion
He's like "Be patient, this a contact sport
So you can save your pep talk, give me that oral support"
And stay up

Before i begin another music post. Thanks to Sean for joining the blog. I'm hoping to begin to turn this into a british version of the complex magazine blog. So im branching out and getting some talent in.

I wasn't too impressed with Colin Munroe when i first heard him. He did a cover of Kanye West's Flashing Lights (The best song he will ever write). And in these internet driven times it became a hit. It even came with a snazzy video which was homage to that verve one. Where that Richard guy is rude.

So Munroe got the hip hop vote and roped in some of the best unsung rappers on his mixtape. Getting Wale, Mickey Factz, Joell Ortiz and Blaqstarr on board. not a bad list. That still didn't get me.
This is what got me. It's on the great 10 Deep (the clothing company that sponsored the Kid Cudi man on the moon mixtape, he is currently number 2 in the charts - go figure) mixtape. The song is produced by Detroit's Black Milk (detroit home of motown and amazing producers also terrible crime and poverty) and features my unsung favourite rapper Joell Ortiz. The song is called Piano Lessons and i suggest you listen to it.

You can grab it here.
Oh and Munroe >>> Daniel Merriwether (who i still dont trust.)
