The End of the Year Awards (that are almost three months late and not as pithy as they where before)
As You’re Lovely But… reaches its one year anniversary I decided to go and do my end of the year list. Basically it is just a bunch of random memories cobbled together in semi coherent form to make me seem much more productive than I am. Well next year this blog will be taking a new form and the posts will be well researched and just generally more thought provoking than reactionary.
Artist of the Year: Gnarls Barkley- on my first music post back in January I posted the song Crazy. Eleven months later it is still being played in clubs. Granted it is on shitty reggaeton nights at the Bridge, but I predicted that they would be huge.
Music I can’t wait to get rid of: Reggaeton, seriously why hasn’t it died already? I blame Shakira.
Worst Song of The Year: Shakira’s Hips Don’t Lie. Terrible song, ruined an old Lord Tariq and Pete Gunz classic and then had the nerve to have the worst rapping this side of rudebox.
Biggest Gamble of the year award: Rudebox, Rob and I often complain about the lack of concept albums in the market these days. Robbie Williams makes one, its quite bad but at least its different.
Remixer of the Year: a draw between Simian Mobile Disco and Soulwax. Soulwax have held the crown for a while (2 many dj’s = amazing), Simian have shown a knack for taking samples of the songs and creating huge sonic soundscapes that doesn’t necessarily mirror the original but encompasses key elements of it.
Album of the Year: Yeah Yeah Yeahs : Show Your Bones, stunning album. Some wish it to be more punkish like the original and wish that they hadn’t tried to make 12 more songs like Maps. I don’t care I love Maps and this album.
Rap Song of the Year: Three Six Mafia: Stay Fly, I know it as released last year but it is so good that it stays here.
Film of the Year: You are thinking that I would say Bond. I haven’t seen it yet and I don’t think I will until I finish my exams so I can watch it and the prestige at the same time. I pretty surprised that The Prestige is being released around this time; it has the potential to be huge in February. Good Night and Good Luck. Stunning Film, a throwback to the old greats that utilised every moment on screen to its full effect unlike modern day films which tend to drag on just so they can get another soft drink company logo in it.
Football Game of the Year: I would say the Champo league final but I can’t because I felt sick during most of it and felt like crap for the rest of the night.
Best Club: A varied list this year, Im still going to have to go with koko. Music I like, fit and fierce girls who do subjects that I don’t give a shit about. Cheap and ugly shots and always someone to laugh at almost always make it a good time.
Best Drink of the Year: The Mohijito ruled supreme last year and still did for most of this year. Baileys and Guiness are taking over, the staple beer has been Fosters. However the one drink that gave me nightmares all year has been Jeagermiser. Go bless the cough medicine.
Dumbest Moment of the Year: Accidentally Burning myself with cigars on the birthday party night. I looked like I made out with a beehive the next morning.
Underated stories: Naked love chair, Jay-Z fat girlfriend, duck night, strip club and
Best Dressed: Vastly underrated and simply for pure consistency Robinho.
Person whom I admired the most this year: Fran and his ability to take my thirst for knowledge for all things football and apply that to everything he does.
Phrase of the year: hombre. Jens you legend
Phrase I use a lot: Legend, just because I use it a lot doesn’t mean that it is diluted just that there are so many of them.
Evita laughing at my dumb dance whilst I was dressed as a terrorist whilst playing Risk was a great memory.
Shop of the Year: American Apparrel/Topshop/Swear
Best New Band: The Gossip
Most Surreal Moment: Discussing children with Friederike, I have had that conversation with so many of my good friends that are girls in my life.
Bar of the Year: St James’ in Picadilly Circus and Notting hill Arts club.
Mix of the Year: Rob’s for sheer diversity and the ability to put in songs that really wouldn’t work outside any other mix.
Television Show of the Year: City of
Dumbest bet of the year: Myspace women challenge.
