Sweet Words For The Sour

Werner Herzog is an inspiration to me. The German film director and scriptwriter is a genius. His films often leave bewildered by his portrayal of the human spirit.

Wiki Quote here: “His films often feature heroes with impossible dreams, people with unique talents in obscure fields, or individuals who find themselves in conflict with nature.”

Here are some Werner quotes. Get Inspired.

“If you want to do a film, steal a camera, steal raw stock, sneak into a lab and do it!”

Someone like Jean-Luc Godard is for me intellectual counterfeit money when compared to a good kung fu film.”

“May I propose a Herzog dictum? those who read own the world, and those who watch television lose it.”

Centuries from now our great-great-great-grandchildren will look back at us with amazement at how we could allow such a precious achievement of human culture as the telling of a story to be shattered into smithereens by commercials, the same amazement we feel today when we look at our ancestors for whom slavery, capital punishment, burning of witches, and the inquisition were acceptable everyday events.”

Unlike most people, he practices what he preaches. After losing a bet saying that Erol Morris wouldn’t be able to finish his feature film “Gates of Heaven” he ate his shoe in front of a live audience.
